Your First Steps
Your tale opens on a wagon on the King's Road at dusk, with the dead on the road. See the wagon safely to the gate, then find Herald Aldric in the castle's great hall for a starter kit and your first task.
Herald Aldric sends you along the Crown's Road: clear the roads, carry the Crown's letter to Reeve Maren in the Crown's keep and settle in a town. The road pays 1,000 Crowns on top of the 250 you start with.
Take contracts from the notice boards, level your skills, and sell your goods to the market traders and villagers, who all deal in Crowns.
Find a town with /city list and join it with /town join <name>. Then stand on a lot and type /lot buy, or buy one from your browser on the Land Registry.
The Realm
Dozens of cities and villages are generated with the world, built from medieval cottages, workshops, inns, chapels, manors and cathedrals, with streets that follow the hills, villagers at work and market squares at their hearts.
Every journey begins in Codexia, a great walled city at the world spawn. Behind its gatehouses stand a castle with a great hall and throne, and a market square of eight stalls, each with a trader. The realm's officers keep their offices in its Market Hall, Barracks, Guildhall and Cartographer House.
After the Crown's Road, the tale goes on into Whispers on the Road and The Barrow King, a boss you can face with friends for the Hollow Crown and the Crownguard Blade.
Every town's notice board posts contracts: supplies and crafted goods, bounties, hunts for named foes, parcels to carry and far places to explore, some past the edge of the known world for extra pay. Hand them to the officers in the town's own buildings. Work for a town earns standing there: lot rebates, better prices and, at the top, the title of Thane.
Every city and village is a town you can join, run by an NPC mayor, with lots for sale that follow the buildings on them. Buy a house or an open plot, and trust your friends to build on it. Lots near the square are shop lots, where you can open a shop.
Joining a town makes you a Freeman; finishing the Crown's Road makes you a Burgher, free to found a town of your own. Or own enough lots in a server-run city to buy its charter and replace its NPC mayor. Server towns stay at peace, while player towns join the politics of nations and can be besieged.
Type /quests to see your story missions and contracts and track one of each, with a bar pointing the way. On Java Edition, accept the server's resource pack for a round minimap that marks your quests. The whole realm is also on the World Map in your browser.
The Economy
The currency of the realm is the Crown (♔). Every price is set against what an hour of honest play earns, so a village house costs an evening's work and a manor in Codexia takes a fortune.
Nothing on CodexCraft is sold for real money. There are no ranks, keys, kits or Crowns for sale. Every lot, title and town is earned in game, and the Land Registry only takes Crowns.
